Recurring Club Night? Every Thursday

Better than: Driving drunk, taking MUNI, or spending money on cabs.

Review and Photos by Crystal Akins

Hey camera whores, come and strike your hottest pose every Thursday night at Truck where you're greeted by a red carpet, fake paparazzi and yes, trannies as you step out of the limo provided by promoter Steven Fishell.

Not only is Poser one of the only gay nights making waves outside the Castro, Fishell's party shuttles attendees between Castro and SoMa for FREE. This means: no cab fare or dreaded D.U.I's and more money for drinks. The first pick-up starts at 10:30 p.m. and makes its last drop off at 18th and Castro Streets around 1:15 a.m. Not to mention, riding in a Hummer limo and drinking champagne is so boss.

"It's all in good fun."

"Poser mocks the red carpet parties, it's off the gay strip, and it's a parody," said Fishell, for the benefit of those who don't get it.

Typically the party hosts a go-go boy dancing contest (winner takes home $300 and infamy), porn star appearances, tranny performances and DJs. In conjunction with the free limo ride I had a hard time understanding why last Thursday night was so tame: in attendance were one tranny ("Mutha Chucka"), one DJ ("Spaz"), and a sparsely populated room. When there's no cover for the door and every excuse to get smashed, people should be climbing over each other to get into the bar. Even San Francisco's Mr. and Mrs. Gay were there...

The bar had no drink specials, but let's get real, when you have a free ride and no cover there should be no complaining (especially when the bartender is shirtless).

In any case, drunken debauchery found it's way into the bar as the busty blonde queen made her way atop the pool table to perform her number at midnight. As the spotlight illuminated her golden locks, she lip-synched and danced for the cheering crowd.

Are you hungry? Truck is another spot where you can stuff your drunk face with burgers or sandwiches. Your order makes it way down a zip line and you pick it up at a window botched with vulgar bumper stickers like this one: "To all you virgins, thanx for nothing." For the smokers: At back of the building is a small patio that doesn't cut you off from the rest of the bar.

This party is definitely up-and-coming, and if you're looking for a place to go beyond the Castro, you and yours could easily make this spot your own. Really though, Poser gives one no reason to miss out. Fishell and friends are doing their thing, and all things considered, you might as well stop by.

Critic's Notebook

Personal Bias: Having viewed their MySpace page, I was expecting a bit more.

Random Detail: The bathroom's mirrors were taken off a semi-truck.

By the Way: The limo makes trips between Castro and SoMa about every 20 minutes.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
