California band Rademacher isn't local, but it sure feels like it sometimes. The Fresno act plays quite often in San Francisco, honing up its live chops as it thrills indie kids with a sure-fire blend of influences. The band can alternately sound like Earlimart, Arcade Fire, and Pavement, bubbling over between these biggies in the course of one song at times. I think they're one of the best indie acts around these days, even though they've been pretty below the radar so far. This is why I'm recommending giving one of their newer numbers, "Magic MTN PKWY" a spin. The song is a slow waltz of a ballad, the sound full of lament (and spacey sound effects) compared to the band's usual buoyant style. But it sure is pretty. Check out more Rademacher at the act's MySpace page here. —Jennifer Maerz

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
