Song of the Day: Feral Children

Posted By on Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 10:34 AM

You can't technically download "Jaundice Giraffe" by Seattle's Feral Children, but it's such a good track I'm posting a link to the song here anyway. My buddies in Seattle have been blabbing about their hometown band, calling these guys the next Modest Mouse and stuff. The band sounds much darker than anything Issac Brock's produced lately, though. There's something noisily off-kilter here. I get the TV on the Radio references, and I also hear a bit of another ex-Northwest act, Love as Laughter, mixed with the kind of artsty hardcore that the Blood Brothers championed for years (although these guys are much woodsier, if that makes sense). The band is coming here to play Kimo's on August 17. -- Jennifer Maerz

**Update: Just got a note from the band's publicist: You can download a couple free tracks from Feral Children here:

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
