Portland Post-Punkers in Serious Van Wreck Following S.F. Show

Sometimes fate's golden coin can flip to its opposite side in an instant. Less than 24 hours after The Prids played a friendly BBQ show at the Peacock Lounge in S.F.'s Lower Haight neighborhood (with local moody-pop peers Veil Veil Vanish and others), the Portland band 's van blew a tire outside Fresno, tumbled in several violent spins, and crashed on the side of the highway. Fortunately there were no fatalities — as so often seems to happen with these far-too-frequent band accidents— but the injuries were severe: many broken bones and concussions, for starters. A recent update on the band's MySpace site gives the gruesome details:

A message to and from friends of The Prids: Our dear friends The Prids — David, Mistina, Joey and Maile — and two of their significant others — Kristin and Chris — were in a serious accident early Sunday evening while en route to Los Angeles on tour. A tire blew and they lost control of the van and it rolled several times. David was airlifted from the scene of the crash, he suffered a broken collar bone, broken ribs and has 6 staples in his head. He is still in the hospital. Everyone else has been released from the hospital. Chris broke his arm, and may have spinal injuries. Maile has a broken vertebra and toe and a severe cut with stitches on her knee. Joey broke ribs, Mistina suffered a concussion, and as far as I know Kristin is in similar shape. They are currently staying at a hotel in Fresno. A special PayPal account has been set up to help out and donate directly to The Prids. They need help getting home and paying their hospital bills. If you can't help out monetarily, please repost this info on your blogs, etc. Thanks! P.S.: If you have problems with the link, you can send money using PayPal directly to "". — J. Graham

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
