The Lowbrow Art Sale: Audrey Kawasaki, James Jean & Joshua Petker

Audrey Kawasaki "Okimiyage"

I knew it would happen sooner or later - a new print from Audrey Kawasaki has been released by the masters as This new print really has to be one of the coolest ones I have seen thus far. It's an intaglio print on hand made paper, sized 8.75" x 12.75", signed and numbered in an edition of 50. Each piece is embossed with a drawing by Audrey, as well as hand colored, then mounted into a handmade maple/birch frame with museum quality glass. There is also a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Now how is that for a print? This is truly a work of art, it feels weird just calling it a print. Get It Here.

James Jean "Explore"

If anyone can follow up the amazing image above, its James Jean. This print was made form an unused image James created for a series of Aids Awareness Posters, which so happened to win the Bronze Lion at the Cannes in 2008. The other two that were accepted were a little more graphic than this one, but all three do have that amazing layout and color that you come to expect with a painting from this artist. $50 of each print will go to the Aids Research Alliance. Joshua Petker "Chasing Butterflies"

This self-taught, L.A. based artist has been doing very well in the galleries, often selling out every show. This print is from "A Paper Tiger" and is based off a painting he had in the “Behind Bedroom Doors” show alongside Sylvia Ji at the Thinkspace Gallery last year. The print is 12" x 18" on Somerset Velvet paper and is limited to only 25 prints. There is also 5 “artists edition” prints, where each print is hand embellished with ink, paint & glitter. Each one of these prints is 18" x 24". So if you have missed out on buying one of his original works, head on over and grab one of his prints before they sell out. Get It Here

Greg "Craola" Simkins "Finder's Keepers"

Here we have another artist this week that is getting harder and harder to score work from. His prints often sell out just as quickly as his shows do. This new print is being released by the ZeroFriends Collective, and is limited to 50. Each print is 16" x 20" on velvet rag paper, signed and numbered. There is a limit to only one per customer. Anthony Ventura "Spartan"

An artist working out of Toronto, Anthony has done work for Rolling Stone, Time, Spin and many others. I had finally gotten around to watching 300, like 12 times, and went on the net looking for prints based on Spartans. I was happy to see that Anthony had this print available in his new print shop. He has a great style, and I think it fits this topic perfectly. This print is a generous 20" x 24", ultrachome on fine art rag. Get It Here

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
