Finally! A holiday weekend! Three blissful days of no work, or school (unless you work retail). There's lots to do if you can drag yourself away from the BBQ for five minutes. Enjoy the sun (hopefully).

Feeling science fiction-y? Looking for some fantasy? Head to BayCon at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara for the weekend! The San Francisco Bay Area Regional Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention will surely be a dork-tastic experience. Plus, their website indicates a theme of "Adventures in Space - A Pirate's Tale." If you'll be in the city all weekend venture to the Mission for Carnaval on Saturday and Sunday. There will be lots of festivities and vendors including the Grand Parade on Sunday. Plus, after the day time fun on Saturday you can hit up 12 Galaxies for Carnival Fever. Wanna get your sport on? The A's play the Boston Red Sox Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Now for some more fun. . .

Friday night Margot & the Nuclear So So's, the best thing to come from Indiana, will totally rock your socks off at the Independent. Plus, they play with Mike Bloom of the Elected and Rilo Kiley. The doors are at 8:30 pm and tickets are only $12. Searching for something more "hardcore" (and lame)? Mindless Self Indulgence plays the Regency Grand Ballroom on Van Ness with London After Midnight and Birthday Massacre. Hopefully you respect yourself enough to not attend the lamefest.

Saturday at Fort Mason is the Baby Fair! Cute! "The San Francisco Birth & Baby Fair, is THE event for new and expecting parents in the San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. Join us for a day of education and shopping. Meet representatives from the local birthing and early parenting community. There will be demonstrations and workshops on cloth diapering, birthing options, pregnancy health and wellness topics and more! You'll have a chance to shop for maternity apparel & baby wear and accessories, most at discounted prices from local designers. Plus we'll have goody bags for the first 250 families, refreshments, and a chance to win prizes in our free raffle." It even makes me want to get preggers. Afterwards visit the Independent again for My Brightest Diamond. They're almost as adorable as babies. Almost.

On Sunday either head to the Great American Music Hall for a Club Donuts and KUSF (in association with ARTHUR MAGAZINE, AQUARIUS RECORDS, WESTADDRADIO.COM). Cluster, Tussle and White Rainbow will be playing in addition to some DJs, a fashion show and free donuts! OR, go back to the Independent again and see the Von Bondies (remember, they had that single "c'mon c'mon - I think) with DIE!DIE!DIE! (they come from the home of hobits that isn't Middle Earth).

On Monday buy your tickets to see Ladytron with Datarock Tuesday at the Fillmore.

Crack open a beer, buy some steaks and have a delightful and safe Memorial Day weekend. - Melissa Baron

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
