Friday took ASD to one of three International Ms. Leather 2008 evenings at the Holiday Inn on Van Ness. In the bowels of the building we witnessed some interesting scenes...including (but not limited to) flogging, paddling, whipping and some mild knife play. Read all about that here. And do click the link to see some of the footage we took of the IMsL auction - including the bidding for Dominatrix Midori and a lap dance by another lovely lady up for bid, Peggy Sue. We also have a safe word slideshow for you featuring auctionees and their safe words of choice. (Aside: Doesn't B.C. Cliver -pictured- who we ran into at IMsL look somewhat like Michael Jackson?)
Also on Friday, our SoCal correspondent Christopher Victorio returned to Coachella's stomping ground for the first day of Stagecoach. Read his account, in which he documents how Shelby Lynn cursed at the crowd and gave those in the front row the bird, here. And do flip through CV's beautiful photos.
Saturday was Free Comic Book Day and World Naked Gardening Day. On Comics columnist Matt Shaer celebrated the former by getting geeky about the new Iron Man flick. We passed on the gardening, though the backyard was secluded enough that we probably could have gotten away with it...not that we thought about it... That said, all you naked gardeners are free to e-mail us pics to show us how it's done.
Saturday night, our Jennifer Maerz attended "Rock the Rabbit," a Playboy mag-hosted party at the Mezzanine:
"The event was, predictably, quite a sausage fest, with enough free hair gel stacked on tables and in the bathrooms to stiffen an entire generation of nudie mag readers. There were probably bunnies somewhere in the club, but personally I saw more scantily clad Playmates in the giant Playboy posters hanging from the balconies than mingling with all the young dudes in the audience. Maybe the ladies were worried about getting mobbed -- or, better yet, perhaps the cliched beats of The Cataracs were such a burden on those sensitive rabbit ears the women had spend the early part of the evening covering them. At least UK band The Heavy has a singer who can carry a tune with feeling. Tagged his generation's Curtis Mayfield, frontman Swaby gave funky bar rock an extra dose of soul," Jen reports.
Sunday was all about the How Weird Street Faire on Howard. We've got some very colorful photos coming in from the amazingly talented husband-wife photo team of Mike and Jenny Cash. Check back here for that in a bit. --Janine Kahn
