Prince Added to Coachella Lineup

Coachella just got one million times funkier by announcing the addition of Prince to the lineup. The living embodiment of the color purple makes a roadtrip to the southern California deserts all the more worthwhile, if only to groove to sexy jams like "Erotic City." Or maybe just to challenge Prince to a game of basketball. -- ASD Staff Report

Peter Sellers Double Feature At Castro Theatre

Posted By on Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 1:40 PM

If you didn't know, Peter Sellers was a comedic genius. His multiple funny roles in Dr. Strangelove was a precursor to further versatile actors like the Monty Python troupe and Eddie Murphy, and was outright snubbed of winning another Oscar with his amazing performance in Being There. The Castro Theatre won't be playing these classics, but the flicks Sellers did with director Blake Edwards weren't so bad, either. Visit the Castro Theatre April 18 for a Peter Sellers double feature of A Shot in the Dark, where Sellers takes on his immortal Inspector Clouseau character of Pink Panther Fame, and The Party, where he plays a bumbling Indian actor who ruins a swank Hollywood party. -- ASD Staff Report

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Badu and Roots band have dropped gems -- sometimes together -- for over 15 years, and '08 is no different. Ms. Wright has blessed the airwaves with a delicious serving of "Honey," and the Roots remain in form as evident on "75 Bars." That said, don't miss out on both Roots and Badu when they perform at the Paramount Theatre on June 8. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 11. -- ASD Staff Report

Not content to host a restaurant (Prana) and a nightclub (Temple) in San Francisco, Zen Compound is now launching a record label, Temple Music Group, in May. In a press release promising "cutting edge electronic music," Zen Compound mapped out plans to spread the new tunes through its various venues, and to also offer its soundtracks to "local art galleries, yoga studios and coffeehouses." Its first release, Prana Vol. 1, sounds a bit hippie dippie in concept [It "reflects the variety of cultural influences the restaurant's globally-inspired cuisine embraces."] It's produced by JaswhO, whose tracks range from "down-tempo electronica to tribal house." The local acts on the comp will include Tracey Amos, Paul Hemming, the Caren Hope Project and Kirin and Chloe Jarvis. -- Jennifer Maerz

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
