Treasure Island Music Fest returns in September

Posted By on Tue, Feb 26, 2008 at 1:22 PM

Everyone who trekked out to Treasure Island Music Festival last year knows what a blast it was to see a bunch of bands (Spoon, M.I.A., Modest Mouse) at such a breathtaking locale...while, say, riding a Ferris wheel to boot. Well the good news is Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment are gearing up for round two at the end of September. Full release below. -- Jennifer Maerz

Feb 26th—San Francisco, CA—After an immensely successful inaugural year, Noise Pop and Another Planet are excited to announce that Treasure Island Music Festival will be taking place on September 20th to 21st 2008. Picking up where last year left off, the two-day celebration promises to feature a stellar and diverse lineup of music in the most breathtaking setting: smack-dab in the middle of the San Francisco Bay on the historic Treasure Island.

Organized by the creators of the Noise Pop Festival, one of the nation’s longest-running music festivals, and Another Planet Entertainment, nationally established independent concert promoter based in Berkeley, CA, the Treasure Island Music Festival has been called a “full blown love affair” by SPIN.COM, and has SF WEEKLY boasting that “NorCal has its own Micro-achella.”

“We are excited for the next chapter of Treasure Island Music Festival,” states Allen Scott, Vice President of Another Planet Entertainment. “Based on the buzz created from last year's event, many artists want to make Treasure Island their fall tour stop. We look forward to announcing the full line-up.”

“Thankfully the response to last year’s event was overwhelmingly positive,” adds Noise Pop co-owner Jordan Kurland, “Our goal with the second installment of the festival remains the same - to present a diverse line-up of artists that you will not find at any other festival in a setting that is impossible to replicate.”

A full lineup of bands and activities are forthcoming, but for up-to-the-minute information on Treasure Island Music Festival please visit (

The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
