Filipinos Picket Union Square Disney Store, File Suit Over Housewives Humor

Posted By on Mon, Oct 15, 2007 at 11:18 AM

Don't fuck with the Philippines. Filipino doctors in the U.S. are filing a class action lawsuit against Walt-Disney-owned ABC over a line delivered by Palo-Alto original Teri Hatcher on the Sept. 30th episode "Desperate Housewives."

Here's the line, which you can watch in context here:

"Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? ‘Cause I would just like to make sure they are not from some med. school in the Philippines."

The comment has sparked outrage in the Philippines and prompted members of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFA) to picket in front of the Union Square Disney Store Sunday.

Despite ABC's apology, local Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) issued a statement calling the line a "desperate attempt at humor." Was that a pun?

No word yet on an apology from Mickey Mouse, Porky Pig or Pluto.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
