Solano Medfly Sightings: Hot Fruit Fly On Fruit Fly Action

Hang on to your tomatoes folks, it could be a long infestation. Twelve dreaded Mediterranean Fruit Flies have been found in Dixon since the first sightings early last week, prompting the Solano County Agricultural Commissioner to scare the shit out of everybody, calling the fly "the single biggest threat to agriculture there is." Experts say a permanent infestation could cause tomato losses in the billions of dollars per year.

In an effort to kill the little bastards, officials dropped more than three million sterile male medflies in the area by plane, hoping they'll seduce the wild females, who die after mating (insert joke here) and won't produce any baby fruit flies, since the males -- dyed pink for identification, by the way -- are all shooting blanks. There's nothing like using sex to get what you want. Am I right ladies?

Check out Bay Area Bites for tips on how you can help the local farmers affected by the medfly problem.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
