So it’s official. Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment are gonna give San Francisco a reason to hit that lovely isle off the coast of the Embarcadero, Treasure Island. For two days in September (the 15th and the 16th), the organizations are pairing for the first annual Treasure Island Music Festival. The party starts Saturday the 15th for the electronic coinoisseurs: headliners include Thievery Corporation, Gotan Project, DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, Zion-I, Ghostland Observatory, and M.I.A. (let’s hear it for getting through customs this time!). Sunday all indie rock breaks loose, with Modest Mouse, Spoon, Built To Spill, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Earlimart, and M. Ward on the marquee.

But wait, before you plunk down that credit card (tickets go on sale Sunday, June 24) check out these other fine selling points: TIMF will also host a local band stage (our money’s on Scissors for Lefty and Every Move a Picture getting on that lineup), along with a very special “vending village” of local artists and fashion designers, and plenty of grub so you won’t have to survive off your fishing skills in the Bay. And believe us, you’ll probably want to plan to get stranded on the Island for a couple hours: the Festival runs from 12:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on those slotted days, and tickets are $58.50 per day (limited $110 tickets for a double-day pass). And since everything seems to be heading this way these days, there’s a VIP option for those not wanting to rangle with the riffraff. Details are still getting worked out (the big question being what kind of public transportation options will be available, especially since the fest is plugging a “green” attitude.) --Jennifer Maerz

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
