Quit Bitching: Wednesday Night Club Picks

Posted By on Wed, Jun 6, 2007 at 1:07 PM

If you must hit the Tenderloin tonight, stop by Deco Lounge’s "Bailando." The disco, Italo, and electro sounds (circa ’76 to ’83) provided by DJ Robot Hustle are well worth a possible gunshot wound to the shoulder. Also, suspected homosexuals gather here, if that’s your thing. (free, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.)

Looking to start a wee bit earlier? Then hit 111 Minna Gallery’s long-running "Qoöl" night. Resident DJs Scott Carrelli, Jondi, Gil, and Spesh are joined by guests DF Tram and Iyad, spinning progressive house, breaks, techno, and more. An aside: I have lived near 111 Minna for several years now, and let me tell you that the drunk-and-need-to-smoke crowd that accumulates outside on Wednesday nights is the most pleasant and most attractive herd that I’ve come across, unlike the douchebaggery that stains the sidewalks at some other venues. I digress. ($5, 5 p.m-10 p.m.)

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
