Zion I

Wednesday, Mar 31 2010

Oakland rap crew Zion I delivers MC Zumbi's deliberative rhymes over revved-up soul and spastic scraper beats engineered by AmpLive. The pair takes a generous view of technology's role in creating and spreading music. "Keep on downloading!" Zumbi told fans at last year's Outside Lands festival, cheering those who acquired Zion I's 2009 album, The Takeover, for free online. In 2010, Zion I has released a downloadable sampler showcasing a half-hour AmpLive DJ mix and Zumbi's contribution to the J.Period mixtape featuring K'Naan and the late Fela Kuti.
