You're Taking the Wig Down From the Shelf

Wednesday, Feb 4 2009
Valentine's Day is one of those stressy holidays -- boys are expected to actually do something, and a lot of times, they don't like that. Don't worry, boys! Easy answer this year: Origin of Love is the coolest, best, funniest, most "romance"-inducing thing you can possibly do this year. Because holy shit! John Cameron Mitchell, the king and also the queen of laughing and crying at the same time, aka Hedwig herself, is coming across us, as she says in the movie. For three days, Hedwig and the Angry Inch alternates with Shortbus on the silver screen, but only after Mitchell sings us some songs and tells some hysterically sexy stories about the makings-of. Depending on which night you go, he may also director’s-commentary the whole film. Plus, every night is hosted by a local drag type: Peaches Christ, Anita Cocktail, or Connie Champagne. This is major, boys. Don't fuck it up, or you know what won't happen.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
