Daily routines range from boring to downright quirky. But humans have the same requirements, more or less, to get through the day. "Wake, feed, eat, embrace, change, dress, feed, sleep, wake, eat, feed, bathe, nurture, embrace, feed, sleep and repeat," reads the artist's statement for "Mooka: New Work by Artist Yasmina Dedijer-Small." While everyone is familiar with this series of activities, perhaps no one is better acquainted with them than women who take care of children. In "Mooka," the artist exhibits new works based on the daily routines of mothers. Dedijer-Small's work focuses on repetitive shapes and patterns that create soft, hypnotic designs. Generally consisting of some sort of pastel gouache and ink details, arranged on various, rustic-seeming materials, each piece is delicate yet sturdy — much like a mother.
"Mooka: New Work by Artist Yasmina Dedijer-Small" starts at 5 p.m. through June 26 at The Great Highway Gallery, 3649 Lawton St., S.F. Free; 415-680-3891 or thegreathighway.com.
