Why We Love Oil

Wednesday, Nov 19 2008
Few days are better than Thanksgiving for standing around and looking at cars. The 51st Annual International Auto Show has around 800 of them — the Mercedes-Benz SL63AMG, the VW CC, the Mini John Cooper Works Clubman. Political types might want to check out the river barges from Detroit's congressional-lobbying, innovation-allergic, can’t-manage-a-piece-of-toast Big Three, as well as the magical slips of wonder by North Pole automakers Toyota and Honda. What else? How about the Bentley Flying Spur, the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, the Lamborghini LP 560, and the Maserati Quattroporte — those are gas-guzzlers as well, but shut up. Hot rods, racecars, custom cars, simulators, probably a hot dog stand or two, and Mario Andretti (tomorrow at 5 p.m.) round out the event.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
