Where Our Head Is At

Music compilation projects don't usually blow our skirts up. While the local-scene types are always kind of fun, they also tend to suck. Production value is not the point, and bands don't want to give up the good songs they (understandably) put on their own records. You can see where this is going: This comp is different. The In A Cloud organizers at Secret Seven Records found a hot little pocket of extremely talented local musicians who have nice juicy previously unreleased material to contribute. The lineup: Thee Oh Sees, Sonny & the Sunsets, the Fresh & Onlys, Hannah & Raven (of Grass Widow), Jacques Butters, Ty Segall, the Sandwitches, Exray’s, Donovan Quinn & the 13th Month, Trainwreck Riders, Dylan Shearer, Paula Frazer, Tim Cohen, and Kelley Stoltz. Tonight's show features Cohen, Stoltz, John Bernson of Exray's, and Sonny Smith.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
