What’s Behind the Curtain

Wednesday, May 2 2012
Wayne Brady fronted his own ABC talk show for several years in the early aughts, and he is now the modern-day incarnation of Monty Hall, fronting the resurrected game show Let’s Make a Deal. Throughout, the comedian and singer has been a leading candidate for Mister Congeniality, projecting likeable qualities that have kept him regularly employed on television. And although he’s perceived as safe by mainstream America, his memorable appearances as an aggressive pimp version of himself on Chappelle’s Show gave us the first glimpse that Brady has a versatility that can’t be written off. His first love is in improvisational comedy, a craft he’s been developing since his high school days. Stand-up remains for him an outlet to play with those perceptions of his personality, so don’t expect a sanitized show when Wayne Brady and Friends take the stage.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
