We're Real Proud of You, Honey

Wednesday, Jun 18 2008
Among the hundreds of events affiliated with the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade, one of our favorites is the big pink triangle on Twin Peaks. Volunteers put it up there just for the weekend (it's a big job, and they can use help: Today at 10 a.m., politicians, community leaders, and others haul up there to speechify. But the larger significance of the installation is shared by everyone in a 20-mile radius: It's a big rosy reminder of why the whole rigmarole exists in the first place, and we think that's poetic. Parade-wise, celebrity grand marshals Cyndi Lauper and Charo lead the way tomorrow, the latter atop a pink float surrounded by Charo lookalikes, almost as if someone had accused the organizers of not being gay enough last year. The massive celebration, with music by Meshell Ndegeocello, Terese Genecco, and the S.F. Opera, starts today at noon and continues Sunday.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
