Viet Cong: Show Preview
Upon the release of last year's self-titled debut on Jagjaguwar records, Calgary's
Viet Cong was already making waves in the indie scene. Unlike most four-piece groups of this post-punk ilk, which sound as if they're altogether missing something, this quartet manages to conjure up soundscapes reminiscent of Joy Division and Bauhaus without coming off dated or derivative. The band also features two members of the sadly defunct Women, whose full-length,
Public Strain, was one of the greatest releases of 2010. And while the band may be relegated to the club circuit for now, odds are it will be gracing theaters and music halls on the next touring cycle.
