Viet Cong: Show Preview

Upon the release of last year's self-titled debut on Jagjaguwar records, Calgary's Viet Cong was already making waves in the indie scene. Unlike most four-piece groups of this post-punk ilk, which sound as if they're altogether missing something, this quartet manages to conjure up soundscapes reminiscent of Joy Division and Bauhaus without coming off dated or derivative. The band also features two members of the sadly defunct Women, whose full-length, Public Strain, was one of the greatest releases of 2010. And while the band may be relegated to the club circuit for now, odds are it will be gracing theaters and music halls on the next touring cycle.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
