U.S. Air Guitar
The Independent
U.S. Air Guitar Championships take over on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27. 9 p.m., $18-$30; 771-1421, www.theindependentsf.com.
Michael Jordan may have been called "His Airness," but he's got nothin' on this year's U.S. Air Guitar contestants. Such absolutely shameless competitors as Shreddy Mercury, Fender Splendor, Derek Not So Smalls, and Electric Testicle have slayed other cities with their blazing fretwork, eye-popping costumes, and comical stage presence, proving that air guitar is the new karaoke (albeit much, much easier on the ears). Who is equal to the task? The Bay Area's own Craig "Hot Lixx Hulahan" Billmeier — who air-shredded his way to victory at the Air Guitar World Championships in Finland last year — will be on hand to help judge 2009's colorful crop of contenders for one night of the contest's two-night run.
