Underworld
The Fox Theater
Both acts should challenge you to trip down the rabbit hole when they perform together in Oakland on Friday, Aug. 7. 8 p.m., $43.50; www.anotherplanetent.com.
In 1996, synth-saturated U.K. producers Underworld helped bring bleeps and blops closer to the mainstream with the high-profile placement of their song "Born Slippy NUXX" in the hit film Trainspotting. The group's dubby acid house deftly balances the hauntingly subtle and the blissfully full-blown, and Underworld performances remain full of fluorescent melodies, cascading riffs, and other giddy gibberish. Tour opener Damian Lazarus is equally prog-leaning and sonically insatiable. The British expat recently released his debut full-length, Smoke the Monster Out, which is full of multiprocessed harmonies, hissing percussion, and paranoid lullabies.
