The 21st century has gone a long way to validate Italian experimental rock of all stripes, old and new, and Ufomammut is one of the prime examples in the latter category. The trio's third album in 2005, Lucifer Songs, also the first release on the excellent Supernatural Cat label, helped stake its claim as top-notch purveyors of epically scaled, heavily fried and proggily mystic metal, with elaborate artwork part of the whole package. Little wonder that further releases, especially the even more awesomely epic Eve in 2010, caught the attention of the equally inclined to art-and-power Neurot label, that's been releasing Ufomammut's work in America ever since, including this year's wonderful Ecate. The group played San Francisco as well as L.A. in 2009 but this is the first full U.S. tour the band has had the chance to do, making this a long overdue treat of a performance. Portland's Usnea is supporting on the tour, while Bay Area acts Hornss and Bädr Vogu will open. Bring earplugs or just expect to die, pretty much.
