Trippy Beer Ballet

Wednesday, Apr 27 2011
Twyla Tharp’s Surfer at the River Styx and Patrick Corbin’s Psychedelic Six Pack: The names alone tip you off. Company C Contemporary Ballet isn’t normal, and it doesn’t choose normal dances to do. The group is known for unpretentious rigor, meaning it takes dance very seriously but also doesn’t take dance very seriously. Three world premieres are also on this bill, one by CCCB artistic director Charles Anderson. It’s set to music by Tom Waits and Willie Nelson, and it’s called Ballet Noir — none of the above is normal. Other premieres include Jodie Gates’ Slip-Ring and James Sewell’s Gamelan.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
