Trey Songz
Along with mid-'90s R'n'B chanteuse Monica, Songz performs Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Warfield. 8 p.m., $45-$75; www.thewarfieldtheatre.com.
Trey Songz has etched out a career as the go-to-guy for rappers wanting to add a soulful chorus to their latest songs. Despite three successful solo albums, including 2009's gold-certified Ready, the Virginia-born singer is most readily identified by the rap royalty he has worked with. This year, his fervent vocals have been featured on songs by Rick Ross, Ludacris, Diddy and Fat Joe; before that, he collaborated with platinum-sellers Drake, Lil Wayne, and Young Jeezy. His fourth album, Passion, Pain, and Pleasure, continues the trend, with Young Money's Nicki Minaj guesting on first single "Bottoms Up."
