Tough Guise

Wednesday, Aug 15 2012
Dean Delray is a tatted-up, Guns N' Roses tee-wearing, crass stand-up comic. There's a lot of that around the stand-up scene -- the over-the-top Real Guy with a plethora of vulgar stories. Here are two things about the former Oaklander that make him the sweetheart of the rock star comic set: He looks a little like Winnie the Pooh, and he's got the cuddly social and political sensibilities that cater to the San Francisco crowd. In his words, "I don't give a fuck who you fuck, as long as it ain't kids or animals." The former Bay Area metal head traded in music for comedy and moved to Los Angeles. Since then, he's found success working a stage almost every night and landing roles in movies like The Longshots with Ice Cube. Delray returns to his home base to rip on homophobes and his own minor movie stardom, looking for audiences ready to shred some dark comedy.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
