Toddla T: Show Preview

Wednesday, Sep 28 2011

Hailing from Sheffield, England, Tom "Toddla T" Bell was just 10 years old during the heyday of the breakbeat sound that is part of the foundation of his rhythm, alongside grime, dubstep, garage, electro, and dancehall. Now 26, he has captured the same uncompromising energy and melodic basslines in his productions and radio shows, while updating the sound to be as soulfully playful at the top as it is gruff on the bottom. Expect to hear a wide variety of rattling Brit-centric street styles from sophomore album Watch Me Dance when Toddla T hits S.F. this week. Also on tour is UK funky artist Roska, who has released cracking, pitch-bent tracks on T's Girls Ahead label.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
