Tiga
The Independent
Collaborating with Soulwax, Jesper Dahlbäck, Jori Hulkkonen, and James Murphy, among others, Tiga segues through flatulent robofunk bass, hissing Chicago acid, slowly unfurling Italo, and a modern love of the Thin White Duke, all of which will be preened and presented on Thursday, May 28. 9 p.m., $18; 771-1422, www.theindependentsf.com.
By the time Canadian DJ and producer Tiga broke globally in 2001 (with a bedroom-produced cover of Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night"), he'd spent the past decade launching Montreal clubs, record stores, and labels. With that one retromodern single, however, he was launched into the then-trendy electroclash scene. Emancipated from that genre's ashes on his second full-length, Ciao!, Tiga more deftly balances synth-pop bangers with throwback-flecked tech-house.
