Nashville probably isn't the first place you'd think to source the, er, pungent riffage emanating from a band called Diarrhea Planet, but it's 2014 and are you really still going to be regionalist about things? DP is a six-person band that's fully 66 percent electric guitars and roughly 80 percent galvanic dude-rock in the mold of Fang Island and early Surfer Blood, but who's to say they don't slip in a little hometown jangle? Who's to say Waylon Jennings would never have written a song called "Ghost With a Boner"? At any rate, your faith in cosmic geography will be restored when Nashville alt-Appalachian combo Those Darlins take the stage with their sweeter, slightly darker take on cowpoke blues and electrified bar-rawk; their third album, last year's Blur the Line, strikes an appealing balance between The Detroit Cobras and Rilo Kiley, both with a more legitimate excuse to wear cowboy boots. San Francisco-via-the-Midwest quintet Jesus Sons opens the S.F. show.
