The diversity of erotic desire has strayed from straight or gay, lights on or off, and missionary or doggy style. San Francisco, especially, embraces the full spectrum of desire, and so does CounterPulse. To highlight each of our personal sexual scripts, the arts organization is hosting This Is What I Want, a three-day festival of performances, discussions, and idea-challenging evenings. Some of the festivities are not for the faint of heart, like Nude Night, back from last year by popular demand. Friday's event offers an option for reduced ticket prices for nudity, with a $1 "tax" for each additional clothing item aside from socks and shoes (deemed, apparently, essential). With this radical audience participation, Nude Night ups the vulnerability while also upping openness to ideas and fellow audience members. It's an artistic experiment typical of our city's unflinching need to be different, and for all the right reasons.
This Is What I Want starts at 8 p.m. through Sunday at CounterPulse, 1310 Mission St., S.F. $15-$40 per night, thisiswhatiwantfestival.com.
