The Whole Truth and Nothing but Laughs

Wednesday, Jan 15 2014

Porchlight, A Storytelling Series collaborates with nearly everyone (SF Film Fest, Creativity Explored, the Bay Area Science Festival), but its ongoing gig with SF Sketchfest, a local comedy festival, might be the most natural match — what better mix than punchline pros and truthful tales, told without the aid of notes? The all-star lineup includes Porchlight favorite Anthony Bedard, who seems to have a grab bag of stories for every occasion; the 2013 East Bay Express best comedian Caitlin Gill; Kids in the Hall founder Kevin McDonald; hilarious, proud-to-be-rude straight-talker Anna Seregina; Nick Thune of Conan, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and The Tonight Show notoriety; and Los Angeles-based April Richardson, who produces Chelsea Handler's show and writes personal-experience-based stand-up. Porchlight founders Beth Lisick and Arline Klatte will host the show, themed "tough guy."

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
