The Tropics Headline Rickshaw Stop for First Time

The Tropics are a siren's call of bright California sunshine tunes for those drifting in and out of the San Francisco Bay's late spring bipolar weather. But instead of leading you towards certain death by sharp jutting rocks, they remind you that summer exists ... somewhere.

The five-piece have steadily grown in notoriety as a local band to watch (I'm surprised when they aren't on a bill), so it will be interesting to see how they do headlining Rickshaw Stop for the first time this Thursday, May 28. It will be the band's last club show until at least the end of the summer, as they'll be playing Phono del Sol on July 11th and Outside Lands on August 8th.

One of the better things The Tropics have created is the Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch-inspired music video for "Fireproof." Shot by local director Frank Door, "Fireproof" reprises Wahlberg's "Good Vibrations." Watch it before heading out to the show:

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
