Pow! Zap! Watch!

When we left our fearless lady reporter, Molly Sloan had just hit the Queen of Zygon with a Molotov cocktail, setting off a chain reaction that caused the Imperial Planet of Zygon to explode and saved Earth from imminent invasion. Fast-forward two weeks, and Sloan and her keen assistant Timmy Mendez are ready for a new adventure in The Intergalactic Nemesis #2: Robot Planet Rising. Hurray! What began in 1996 at an Austin coffeehouse has bloomed into a universe of comic books; audio dramas; a YouTube channel; and never-to-be-missed, live-action, graphic novel-style performances. These shows feature a live score and three fiendishly good actors who bring an intergalactic cast to life. Every other sound — trains, starships, running, slithering, exploding — is created by a remarkable Foley artist using a box of macaroni, a balloon, and some plastic tubes (seriously, this is aural witchcraft). The comic book art — vivid and larger than life — flashes above the players frame for frame, making for a multimedia experience unlike anything else this side of Robonovia.

Robot Planet Rising starts at 8 p.m. at Zellerbach Hall, 101 Zellerbach Hall, Berkeley. $18-$42; (510) 642-9988 or calperformances.org.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
