The Good Doctor

Great news for those still mourning the departure of our favorite soft-spoken, sweater-wearing TV shrink from Law and Order: SVU; Dr. Huang is back! Well, not exactly, but actor BD Wong is making his San Francisco stage debut as, yes, a doctor — this time with roots in fourth century BCE China. The Orphan of Zhao is the first Chinese play to be translated in the West and spawned countless stage and screen adaptations. You'll have to wait until June to see Wong star in James Fenton's reimagination of the classic, but stop by the theater during an exciting last month of rehearsals for a night of BD Wong and A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff in conversation. Wong and Perloff will cover a wide range of topics, including Wong's career, growing up in San Francisco, and his upcoming A.C.T. debut. Wong has been an accomplished stage actor for quite some time — he received an impressive number of accolades for his performance in M.Butterfly in 1988 — but we're sure he'll entertain a question or two about his upcoming, single-episode return to the SVU universe for all the Huang devotees in the audience.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
