The Flaming Lips: Show Preview

The reason people get so obsessive about repeatedly seeing the Flaming Lips live is that these psychedelic indie-darlings have a habit of putting on performances that are so weird, so wistful, so — and we mean this in the traditional sense of the word — fantastic, that mere gigs end up being transcendent experiences. This time around, the septet has titled the tour "With A Little Help From Their Fwends." As such, we can't help but hope that one of the "special surprise guests" being advertised for the New Year's Eve show is Miley Cyrus. If you consider how inseparable Wayne Coyne and young Miley have been in recent months, it's not a giant stretch — and it would be the perfect way for Coyne and company to create just the kind of bizarre, surreal, and memorable moments they're so famous for. Whether Miley shows up or not, though, seeing the Flaming Lips on NYE is a surefire way to ring in 2015 on a thoroughly positive note.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
