The Feast Bay

There Is Too a There There

Wednesday, Aug 29 2007
Oakland's annual Art & Soul festival is one of the best street fests in the Bay Area, no contest. What other event pulls in national acts like Ted Leo & the Pharmacists and Lucinda Williams and also features high-grade locals including Marcus Shelby and Toychestra? That's just the music; Art & Soul also features dance troupes from Ballet Mexico Folklorico to West African company Alseny Soumah; face-painting, bouncers, and other kid activities, plus the Oaklandish "Local-Love Montage" in the film tent. The Legendary Fillmore Slim, plenty of food, and that famous warmer-than-S.F.-weather make it complete: As the old song says, "Oakland, We're for You!"
Sept. 1-3, 11 a.m.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
