The Bronx and Nouveau Mariachi/Mariachi El Bronx @ The Independent

Wednesday, Dec 16 2015

The first thing you should know about hardcore punk band The Bronx is that it also moonlights under the name Mariachi El Bronx. Now that we've cleared that up, the second thing you should know is that both have shows this upcoming weekend. The Bronx, formed in L.A. in 2002, predates their mariachi-infused sister act by seven years, and, for the most part, is the better known band of the pair. With four progressively expansive and increasingly cerebral albums under the belt, The Bronx remains one of the smartest and most experimental bands in the hardcore realm. Mariachi El Bronx, which is mellower and easier on the ear, is known for combining traditional mariachi aesthetics and instrumentation with emotive rock 'n' roll that packs a punch. This seasonal double whammy is part of the White Drugs Christmas Tour, and, whether you make it to only one night or the other, it would be a mistake to miss both.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
