good writers go bad for good cause

The new reading series by Lit Camp — a submission-based writing retreat held at Mayacamas Ranch with agents, editors, publishers, and writers pushing their crafts to the next level — started in part to raise scholarship funds for a few writers unable to pay their way. The Basement Series asks two published authors to choose, through submissions, a handful of emerging authors to read with them as part of the show. This month's authors are Mark Morford and Zarina Zabrisky — two equally fun but wildly different writing personalities— reading or performing on the theme of Broken Resolutions: When Good Intentions Go Bad. With proceeds split between ScholarMatch and the Lit Camp scholarships, and the presence of free beer, you can feel good about feeling good and hopefully be inspired to submit for the next show. Who knows? You may decide to follow half the room to Mayacamas.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
