The 20th Berlin & Beyond Film Festival Recommended

San Francisco's 20th Anniversary Berlin & Beyond Film Festival (Jan 14-Jan 20) opens with acclaimed hacking thriller "Who Am I – No System is Safe" with lead actor Tom Schilling in attendance, and will close its four-day Castro Theatre program on January 17th with Walther Ruttman’s classic documentary "Berlin, Symphony of a Great City" accompanied by a performance by Berlin acoustic/electronic band ALP. Other highlights include German comedienne/actress Anke Engelke in attendance for the North American Premiere of "Ms. Mueller Must Go", Burhan Qurbani's "We Are Young. We Are Strong.", the 3D documentary film "Iraqi Odyssey", and the International Premiere of Lars Kraume's "Family Party".

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
