If global warming is a distant, abstract concept to you, Mohamed Nasheed has a pressing message: There is no Planet B. Deposed recently as president of the Republic of Maldives, a tiny country of 300,000 in the Indian Ocean, Nasheed did anything and everything to galvanize the world’s attention to the rising waters that will inevitably submerge his island nation. (And, down the road, Battery Park and the Outer Richmond, if you have a rooting interest in either U.S. coast.) San Francisco filmmaker Jon Shenk’s savvy, scenic The Island President delivered the opening salvo at the San Francisco Green Film Festival, and now the documentary is in national theatrical release.

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
