Sweet Transvestite

Wednesday, May 8 2013

Here in the Bay Area, we aren't lacking for opportunities to watch the wildly popular cult musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show — there's a screening pretty much every week. That's why drag superstar and longtime fan Joshua Grannell, aka Peaches Christ, wanted to do something different. "Rocky Horror truly saved my life," says Grannell. "Back in the '80s when I first discovered it, as little closeted queen, it was my 'it gets better' video." Grannell is teaming up with original cast member Magenta, Patricia Quinn, (whose iconic lips have graced movie posters everywhere) for a live concert of all the Rocky Horror songs. In addition to the campy musical numbers, which are backed by a live band, The Rocky Horror Show 40th Anniversary Concert Tribute with Patricia Quinn features The X-Factor's Jason Brock as Frank-N-Furter, local dragsters Trixxie Carr, L Ron Hubby, and Dulce De Leche, and an onstage interview with Quinn in the informal and hilarious style known and loved by Peaches Christ fans. Be sure to come early for libations and the costume contest.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
