After prompting people to rid themselves of their old clothes, SwapSF turned its gaze on something else cluttering our lives: old books. Hence, the SwapSF Book Swap, which comes around every handful of months. No, you don't have to suffer through a person-to-person swap, as in "I'll give you a pair of Kings for that Jack Kerouac" that would be stultifying. You simply bid adieu to your books at the door and load up on whatever you like. You could, of course, grab all the quality titles and beat a path to Green Apple for resale, but that would make you a bad person, and bad people might hear someone say, "Gonna read all those, fucker?" So be nice this isn't your big opportunity to work the system. It's a chance to get some new-to-you books and unload your copies of Foucault's Pendulum and The Satanic Verses, which you're never going to finish anyway. It's also a chance to buy $1 beer and wine, attend bookmaking workshops, and nod along to beats by poolboy & d and maer.
