Swap Meat

Wednesday, Feb 17 2010
Suddenly, things have grown stale. You never thought you’d be one of Those People. But here you are, in a room full of strangers, and you’re pretty sure you’re going to swap. We’re not talking significant others, of course. That never goes well; just read The Ice Storm. We’re talking about cookbooks. You’ve made every recipe in that field guide to risotto a hundred times. You’re totally over Southwestern cooking. If you make one more recipe out of that Paula Deen compendium, your health insurance will drop you. But maybe someone at the Cookbook Swap (cohosted by Omnivore Books) has a more cavalier attitude about her arteries and would be happy to trade you her Moosewood Cookbook for your butter-slicked tome. Swappers are invited to bring not just cookbooks, but all food-related books, including memoirs or reference works, and can take as many as they bring. All leftovers go to the good folks at the Bread Project, which provides low-income Bay Area residents with the skills needed to get and keep food industry jobs. So go ahead and swap. Everyone is doing it.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
