Surprising Roommates

Wednesday, Apr 2 2014

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots has widened lately into an unbreachable chasm, the dream of a plot of land demarcated by a picket fence not only a cliché but a radical hallucination in a city where all our desires are shoehorned into studios and shared living situations well past the age of alleged independence. Satisfy your lust for a long, covetous look inside the lives of others in an immersive, site-specific work that takes you through a private home in the Mission where four narratives unravel simultaneously in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room in FACT/SF's Invidious. Choreographed by artistic director Charles Slender, the piece follows six characters as they fall apart and put themselves back together again. Try to decide if it's envy or pity that moves you more; whether the taste of riches is bitter or sweet.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
