Spent and Presented

Wednesday, Apr 16 2014

Ain't no party like a Rumpus party because a Rumpus party has your literary and it has your sexy; at The Rumpus, these two are built into each other. Longtime columnist Antonia Crane celebrates the release of her memoir, Spent, which documents her teenage move to San Francisco's sex industry, ensuing drug abuse and suicide attempt and then recovery, and activism. Crane delivers her depths of experience with a strong voice and composure; her readings are powerful and moving. "I held their secrets while they held me," she once wrote. "They wanted comfort and they wanted to get off and an hour later they wanted me to leave." She's joined by an all-star cast that includes Michelle Tea, Lynn Breedlove, Jerry Lee, Anna Pulley, Bucky Sinister, Joshua Mohr, and Melissa Tan (there's also surprise entertainment, but that hardly seems necessary). The cost of admission will be donated to Homobiles, an LGBT rideshare service.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
