Spank Rock: Show Preview

Wednesday, Sep 14 2011

When Spank Rock debuted in 2005, the indie world was swept up in Baltimore club music fetishism and primed for a dance party group grope. And that's what Spank Rock provided: with bass-heavy gutter rhythms following in the footsteps of Hollertronix and M.I.A., the duo of MC Spank Rock and producer XXXChange became a Next Big Thing. Six years later, the dirty rap crew returns with Everything Is Boring and Everyone Is a Fucking Liar, a collection of darker-tinged angular electro rather than raunchy glitch-hop. The album shows facets of the group beyond the grimy hype.
