Celebrating the works that Black artists created during two pivotal decades in American history, "Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power 1963–-1983", captures a turbulent time when race and identity were central issues in society, much as they continue to be today.
The opening day of "Soul of a Nation" will kick off with a Block Party held at the de Young museum, with programming throughout the day. The exhibition, as well as the museum's permanent galleries will be free for all visitors. Activities will include: music and dance performances, wellness activities, and a local fair.
