Celebrating the works that Black artists created during two pivotal decades in American history, "Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power 1963–-1983", captures a turbulent time when race and identity were central issues in society, much as they continue to be today. The opening day of "Soul of a Nation" will kick off with a Block Party held at the de Young museum, with programming throughout the day. The exhibition, as well as the museum's permanent galleries will be free for all visitors. Activities will include: music and dance performances, wellness activities, and a local fair.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
