Socio-Political Psychosexual Literary Cabaret

Wednesday, Jan 18 2012
Ginger Murray, editrix of a magazine called Whore!, embodies a dangerous mix of literary, political, social, and sexual savvy, and she’s known for assembling lineups of performers who complement her own strong stage presence. Tonight Murray does it again at Bang, Bang: Whore! Magazine Speaks!, a launch party for her quarterly publication “dedicated to celebrating the current and historical qualities of women who have defined a role for themselves outside the status quo.” Murray and alt-sex blogger Vanessa L. Pinto (aka Fleur de Lis) will read from the new issue of the magazine; also reading are poet Dusty Rose, and Allison Moon, author of Lunatic Fringe, “a queer, feminist werewolf story.” The second half of the evening includes performances by Dottie Lux (founder of Red Hots Burlesque) and “glam and gore makeup artist” Kegel Kater. El Radio Fantastique and Fox & Woman play music. Murray promises prizes and something called a “cougar auction.” While we don’t quite know that entails, we know we’re in good hands with Murray.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
